"Monster Tajima returns to win
back the Race to the Sky title"

Japan's Monster Tajima is back Š as King of the Mountain after winning the Race to the Sky in a record-breaking race which saw him slash 23 seconds off the fastest time set in 1999 to record a staggering 8.10.01 result. He had broken the record in both the practice run and the two qualifying runs setting times of 8.19.367m, 8m 28 and 8m19.1 respectively. He says that he was very happy to take a fourth title and looked forward to have it again in the next yearÕs event. From the outset Tajima signaled a fast and convincing final run, and as he drove through the finish, he delighted spectators with a round of 360 degree spins.

For Rod Millen it was a hugely enjoyable race, and commented "I made one small mistake but apart from that I donÕt think I could have done any better than Monster did."

Possum Bourne who is in an intensive care unit with a serious but stable condition, with head and leg injuries, after a road car collision on the Snow Farm Road prior to the start of the event on Friday. Tajima says all he wants is to race against Possum again. "I am very worried for him, I want to be in motorsport with him again."
